nador_dev2.pngProgress update...

I have been working recently on various flow charts to make things clearer in my head as to what is what with a multitude of game mechanics from skills to item creation, I had built a few forms for data input but kept on thinking of additions to them so I took a step back and started to create the charts and it has payed off. I is much easier to modify and develop ideas in this manner and I will be continuing this work for the time being.

I have also been developing the game further in my mind and I am bursting with ideas to implement once things are more permenant as reguards the basics, there is no point running before you can walk which is a lesson I have learnt early in game development. I see from hits on the site that people are viewing so please stay tuned for further updates as I promise I will have a game to play at some point even if it kills me in the process.

Back to work

Well Im back on the project, its been nearly three years since I posted on the site so I thought it about time to start things up again. For many reasons I have not been able to work on the project for a long time, there has been periods where I have done a small amount of development work but nothing major.

So now I have more time on my hands I have ressurected the game with a new name "Nadorea", I am hoping to be able to review and rewrite what has been done to date, I have new ideas and more coding experience so with luck things may move forward. I am always looking for new members to add to the team and I am particularly looking for some one to help work on the story and for art work, if your interested let me know using the contact form in the main menu.

Added a few screenshots to the site of the first zone of the game, the first screenshot is of the village square where you will start the game by talking to Xalidor a wizard who has been turned into a statue.

I will add a few more when the map develops further, with luck we will be providing zone maps to help you get around.

You can find the screenshots link in the main menu.

World creation update
Written by Boldee

We have had to make some adjustments to the size of the world after the realisation quite early on that it was just too small so to alleviate this we have made zones much larger than before. No change has been made to the general size of the world it is still 3 layers with 165 zones in each but now zones are divided into 100 rooms, so if you do the math that is a big increase in the number of rooms to 49,500 opposed to the original 12,375.

Once this was sorted we could then decide how to divide up a room to create areas of the map where events could take place, we opted for an 8 x 8 grid giving a total of 64 squares. Each of these squares is effectively 5ft x 5ft with a room being 40ft x 40ft, we thought a 5ft x 5ft grid size was appropriate as it is a standard size in most role playing systems.

So we now have the layout for our first zone, which is the starting village and tutorial zone where you will learn the basics of the game and decide which of the three realms you wish to ally to. Another major advance has been finding Campaign Cartographer 3 (CC3) and Dungeon Designer 3 (DD3), which we are now using to map Nador, the map will be a floor plan top down view.

I have also designed a basic hud interface for the game but until we have more database information it is hard to move further in this area, so needless to say that is the main focus of our efforts at this time. Still lots to do but we are making good progress to date.

Creating the world
Written by Boldee

When I first stated to write Nador one of the real sticking points was simply how to create the world and make it as dynamic as possible, at the time I was finding this a problem but a year later and a whole lot wiser I have managed to create a system that I think is as protean as it can be at this time.

The world consists of 3 layers each containing 165 zones, each zone contains 25 rooms which gives us a grand total of 12375 rooms over all 3 layers. There are some differences between each of the layers for instance the Dream world has no direct links to the above or below ground layers as it can only be reached by sleeping or some other special circumstances.

Rooms are a method of dividing up a zone into areas where game events can take place, events may be somthing as trivial as asking for directions or selling your loot to completing a major quest or slaying a special monster the possibilities are endless.
